The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors has unanimously selected Dr. James Henderson as the 18th President of Northwestern State University. Henderson is a 1994 graduate of Northwestern and is currently the Chancellor of Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC).
He says he and his wife could not be more honored or humbled by this appointment.
"And the opportunity to come back to that institution and lead it as it faces the challenges of the 21st century is just almost surreal. We couldn't be more excited."
Henderson will begin his term at Northwestern on January 1st. During his five years at BPCC, he worked with NSU through a partnership between the schools. Henderson says that relationship will be a tremendous advantage.
"That's going to give us, I think, a head start on some partnerships that will be truly revolutionary."
Enrollment has grown by 85-percent under Henderson's leadership at BPCC. He sees growth in Northwestern's future, but it will be a different type of growth.
"But it will be finding new markets and new ways that we can expand programming, expand access and be evermore responsive to employers to the regional economy."
