Chadwick says when a deputy arrived, the man kept screaming he had a gun and was unwilling to show his weapon.
"The man jumped out of his vehicle, stood up and swung his arms over the opened door, and had an object in his hands" Chadwick said. "He pointed that object at the deputy and at that point the deputy fired."
Chadwick says 28-year-old Joseph Hanegan of Shreveport was shot once by the deputy and later died. The deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is a routine procedure in cases like this.
Deputies have determined Hanegan had a hand tool and not a gun like he claimed.
