Two adults and one juvenile are dead after a fire engulfed a trailer in Campti over the weekend. Investigators are still unsure exactly how the fire erupted and claimed the family’s lives. State Fire Marshal Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says it’s not common to see fires that are this devastating.

“It is extreme and so is the extent of the fire damage. It has proven how difficult it is. There is a lot of damage already on the ground.”

The fire occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning on the 1800 block of Clark Road. Rodrigue says investigators aren’t sure why the family did not respond to the inferno but says early reports indicate they may not have been awake to react to it.

“It was three a.m. and it appears based upon where the bodies were located that this was an incident where all three were asleep at the time.”

Rodrigue says investigators discovered the bodies in the wreckage and sent them off to be examined by the coroner. She says it appears the family did not get to spend their last moments together.

“They were able to locate two adult victims in a bedroom on the north end of the trailer and a juvenile which we believe to be a 6-year-old boy was discovered on the west side of the structure.”
