The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's office says a pastor at a church was shot and killed while he was preaching Friday night. Spokeswoman Kim Myers says 53-year-old Woodrow Karey of Lake Charles allegedly walked into the church, shot Pastor Ronald Harris Sr. then left.
"He was pronounced dead at the scene," Myers said. "Kerry fled on foot but later called the Sheriff's office and surrendered without incident."
Karey was arrested and booked with second degree murder.
Myers says witnesses report Karey arrived at the Tabernacle of Praise Worship center while Harris was speaking around 8:20 pm Friday.
"The preacher was preaching, Karey walked in the middle aisle and fired at him shooting him," says Myers. "And then he went and stood over him and shot him again."
Myers says there were about 50 or 60 people in the church when the incident took place, including the victim's wife.
They are still working to establish motive.
