LSU hit two home runs and Ma'Khail Hilliard continues to be sensational as the Tigers blanked Mississippi State 4-0 to win the rubber game of the series.
Before the game, Coach Paul Mainieri said Hillard scratched his eye putting his contacts in, but you couldn't see a difference.
The freshman pitched six strong innings, allowing three hits and striking out a career-high nine. He allowed the first two runners to reach in the first inning, but got out of the inning. Hilliard (6-1)also wiggled out of a bases loaded jam in the 6th inning with a punch out.
In 35.1 innings this season, he's only allowed three runs and has struck out 37.
Austin Bain started the scoring with a double in the gap that scored Nick Webre in the 2nd inning. Freshman Daniel Cabrera gave the Tigers some breathing room, with a towering two run home run over the right field field and LSU led it 3-0.
Cabrera's second home run of the year came off Mississippi State's lefty specialist Zach Neff.
Zach Watson added an insurance run with a long home run to left field off former Tulane pitcher JP France. The sophomore now has four dingers on the year.
The win improves LSU's record to 18-11, 5-4 in the SEC.
