The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors has just named Dr. Chris Maggio the new president of Northwestern State University. Maggio says he’s honored and humbled to accept the position and has been with the university for 29 years.
“We have a lot of momentum going at our university right now, such a positive atmosphere and it’s my pleasure to be able to work with our outstanding facility, staff, students, and alumni community as we continue to move Northwestern forward.”
Maggio succeeds Dr. Jim Henderson who recently became president of the University of Louisiana System. Maggio plans to continue to prioritize higher education given the uncertainty in the legislature.
“It’s our belief that if we all work together and Northwestern continues its pattern of growth, that we’re going to be fine as we weather the storm and just keep our vision on the future of higher education.”
Maggio says their world class faculty and academic programing draws in students from all over. He says their Natchitoches campus is warm and inviting, creating the perfect atmosphere for students.
“We just really have a wonderful environment when we take the student when they first arrive on campus and find their niche at our university. That’s really been our strength, really getting our students involved from the moment they step on campus.”
