The family of a murdered New Orleans teenager chose a unique manner to honor his memory by displaying his body as he lived: playing video games and surrounded by snacks. The images of the teen’s wake are spreading across the internet.

Embalmer and Funeral Director for Charbonnet Funeral Home, Stephanie Simon, says the display of 18-year-old Renard Matthews was the family’s idea.

“He enjoyed playing his video games and they wanted to portray that image for his wake surface so we tried to plan this exactly the way the family wanted it.”

When it comes to the national attention the funeral home is getting, Simon explains its part of the job with the unique features the funeral home offers.

“Sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming but we stay humble because Charbonnet Funeral Home is known for personalized services such as this.”

Simon explains the family was happy with the presentation of the teen and she says others have shown up after seeing the story online.

“Everyone was amazed that we could really do something like this, we had a lot of people coming just to see. They heard about what was going on, they wanted to see how that looked.”
