Rain likely for Louisiana for the rest of the week

Heavy showers and thunderstorms have been moving through south Louisiana since early this morning.  Flash flood watches are in effect for a large portion of south Louisiana through this evening.

Donald Jones, with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, says even more rain is expected to roll in from the Gulf.

"That's bad news for areas that have already seen several inches of rainfall because another several are in order.  And we've seen some minor flash flooding out of this rainfall this morning."

He says rain has been falling at a rate of two to three inches per hour.  Jones says what's making matters worse is that these are slow moving storms.

"You can wind up with some very heavy rainfall for 45 minutes to an hour that can quickly dump two to three inches.  Which, like I said, especially over urban areas could result in some flash flooding."

Jones says there should be a break from the rain this evening, but it's only temporary.

"Even more rain in the forecast for tomorrow and really it's going to be a wet rest of the week.  We're going to be looking at 50- to 60-percent chances of rain each day all the way through the end of the week."
