Northwestern State University President Randy Webb announced today he will retire later in the year. Natchitoches Mayor Lee Posey says Dr. Webb has been president of the University since 1996 and will be greatly missed.

"When I think of Randy Webb I think of a community man that has been a part of this community for an awful long time. I think he has served for almost 19 years but through some very trying times in higher education, he has done a great job," Posey says.

Posey says Webb knows students on a personal basis and has kept up with the school's academic accreditation. Under Webb, Northwestern State has received national and international attention for its academic programs and student accomplishments.
"He's done a great job for Northwestern. We've held our own and have been very successful. We are proud of our university and think Randy has done a great job as leader," Posey says.

Posey says Randy grew up around Natchitoches and was the perfect fit as Northwestern's president.
"That's neat to say one of your alumni has done a great job carrying your university and doing well with it," Posey says.
