The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine if the female body pulled from Lake Pontchartrain Tuesday night is that of 32-year-old Sadie Thibodeaux, who has been missing since Sunday night, when an unmanned sailboat was discovered.
Authorities say Thibodeaux was on that boat with another man, who was rescued Monday morning. The coroner will also determine official cause of death.
NOPD Third District Commander Jeff Walls told reporters homicide unit detectives are assisting in the investigation, but at this time they do NOT suspect foul play.
Thibodeaux recently moved from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. It's believed she was on the boat with 43-year-old Michael Lee Farley.
Police questioned and released Farley Monday afternoon.
Walls confirmed Farley and Thibodeaux had been dating.
“What we do is let the evidence guide us. So as we are going through our case and the evidence leads us in a different direction that’s how we’ll investigate it.”
Walls also promised a thorough investigation.
“At the end of the day this could be a horrific accident or it could be a real crime. That’s why we are processing, and taking the time that we are to make sure that we do the best that we can for Sadie.”
