It was a warmer than normal May and June is picking up right where May left off. State Climatologist Barry Keim says the thermostat will be turned up a few degrees this weekend.
“Saturday and Sunday we can expect afternoon temperatures to reach into the mid or upper 90’s, with heat index values ranging from 100 to 110.”

|The 2018 Atlantic Hurricane season officially starts today despite the fact that the Gulf Coast has already seen its first named storm of the year. NOAA projects 10 to 16 named storms, 5 to 9 hurricanes, and 1 to 4 major hurricanes. State Climatologist Barry Keim says that’s not too far off base for an average year.|

It will feel a lot like Christmas as a cold front will bring more seasonable temperatures to Louisiana. After experiencing highs near 80 in parts of the state, state climatologist Barry Keim says a strong cold front will usher in colder air starting Saturday.

South Louisiana saw some snow Friday morning to the delight of residents. So how rare of an event is this? State Climatologist Barry Keim says, believe it or not, we actually see white flakes more often than hurricanes. But for it to span nearly the entire bottom half of the state is very rare.

The recent cold snap could bring southeast Louisiana some wintry precipitation tonight into Friday morning. State Climatologist Barry Keim says even though the air temperature will stay above freezing, you may still see freezing precipitation.
"Note that even if the surface temperatures are above freezing, say 33 or 34 degrees, the air above it may still be below freezing, snow and sleet can form and you can get snow and sleet that can form at the surface."More

A cold front has crossed the state, bringing Louisiana the coldest weather of the season. State Climatologist Barry Keim says we can expect to see clouds and lingering rain through Thursday. He says break out the sweaters and winter coats.
“Low temperatures this morning are in the 40s across the state and high temperatures this afternoon are only going to reach into the 50s and the temperatures are going to continue to fall over the next few days.”
