North Louisiana under freeze warning & snow in the forecast for Florida Parishes

There’s a lot of talk of wintery mix tomorrow morning and Alek Krautmann with the National Weather Service in Slidell says the Florida Parishes are in for some rain tonight transitioning into sleet and possibly snow by morning. He says we’ll see temperatures in the low 40s throughout today.

South Louisiana may see some wintry conditions

The recent cold snap could bring southeast Louisiana some wintry precipitation tonight into Friday morning. State Climatologist Barry Keim says even though the air temperature will stay above freezing, you may still see freezing precipitation.
 
"Note that even if the surface temperatures are above freezing, say 33 or 34 degrees, the air above it may still be below freezing, snow and sleet can form and you can get snow and sleet that can form at the surface."

Cold front drops temperatures into the 30s across the state

A cold front has crossed the state, bringing Louisiana the coldest weather of the season. State Climatologist Barry Keim says we can expect to see clouds and lingering rain through Thursday. He says break out the sweaters and winter coats. 

“Low temperatures this morning are in the 40s across the state and high temperatures this afternoon are only going to reach into the 50s and the temperatures are going to continue to fall over the next few days.”

Rains continue from Tropical Storm Harvey

Tropical Storm Harvey continues to pour water down on Texas and Louisiana. State climatologist Barry Keim says the worst part is it’s not over yet, as much more rain is yet to come. He says 5 to 10 more inches of rain is still possible in Louisiana.

TS Cindy downgraded to tropical depression, heavy rains continue

Tropical Storm Cindy has been downgraded to a tropical depression, but heavy rains continue around the state. State Climatologist Barry Keim says Cindy made landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border around 3 o’clock this morning. He says the system is inland and weakening, but it’s still a rainfall threat to Louisiana.

Tropical Storm Cindy weakens, threat remains

Tropical Storm Cindy has weakened a bit as of late this morning, but rain still remains a major threat. The system is expected to make landfall on the western Louisiana coast early tomorrow morning. That’s according to State Climatologist Barry Keim, who says Cindy has sustained winds at 50 mph, and will bring in a lot of wet weather.

Tropical system to bring heavy rainfall to Louisiana

Tropical Storm Cindy could drop a foot of rain in southeast Louisiana. State climatologist Barry Keim says the system is expected to make landfall as a tropical storm near the Texas-Louisiana border late Wednesday or early Thursday morning, but the largest rain totals will occur to the east of the storm’s center.

Expect to see more mosquitos after last week's heavy rain

We can expect to see more mosquitos out and about after more than a week of continued rain. LSU AgCenter entomologist Kristen Healy says more rain equals more mosquitos, and different types of mosquitos at that. She says a lot of rainfall can lead to hatching of so-called flood water mosquitos.

More heavy rainfall expected in south Louisiana

Following a weekend of heavy rainfall, the southern half of Louisiana is in for more wet weather today and tomorrow. State Climatologist Barry Keim says a cold front is slowly creeping across the state, bringing with it more rain.

Cold, wet weather in Louisiana's forecast

It’s a cold, rainy day across the Bayou State, and state climatologist Barry Keim says this is typical for winter in Louisiana. He says a storm is tracking across the southern part of the state today, bringing more of the wet weather we saw all weekend.
