There's been some buzz of late about the possibility of Congressman Ralph Abraham of Richland Parish running for governor in 2019. He would join other potential GOP candidates going up against Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards such as US Senator John Kennedy, AG Jeff Landry and Congressman Garret Graves.

Kyle Duncan, the Louisiana nominee for the federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals seat will go before the Senate Judiciary committee today. Attorney General Jeff Landry has been lobbying for Duncan, who was nominated by President Donald Trump. He says especially for conservatives, this is an easy selection.

The Edwards administration disputes the claim by Attorney General Jeff Landry that the expansion of the Medicaid program has helped fuel the opioid crisis. The state health department says there are fewer pain killers on the streets in the last year and more individuals are seeking life saving substance abuse treatment.

State Attorney General Jeff Landry has announced a drug prescription takeback box is now available 24 hours a day at the Baton Rouge Police Department. In making the announcement, Landry addressed the drug problem taxing the state. He says statistics show the problem may be related to recent Medicaid expansion, which made Louisiana the 31st state to do so in 2016.

A three-judge panel of Louisiana's First Circuit Court of Appeal ruled against Governor Edwards’ non-discrimination executive order that attempts to protect LGBT individuals who work for the state from harassment, discrimination or dismissal. The president of Louisiana Trans Advocates Dylan Waguespack says gays and transgendered people are discriminated in the workplace at an alarming rate.

Eight people were arrested in Acadiana on multiple charges of Medicaid welfare fraud. Attorney General Jeff Landry says there is a tremendous amount of abuse in Louisiana and his office will continue to fight to root out welfare fraud. He says Louisiana spends 14 billion dollars a year under the Medicaid expansion.

Former Marksville deputy city marshal Norris Greenhouse Junior accepts a plea deal from the state attorney general’s office that will result in a seven and half prison sentence for the 2015 fatal shooting of six-year-old Jeremy Mardis. Greenhouse was facing life in prison on a charge of second-degree murder.
"His lawyer George Higgins obviously did a masterful job, because the other co-defendant went to trial and got 40 years," legal analyst Tim Meche said.

Attorney General Jeff Landry is alerting consumers to be on the lookout when buying vehicles, as nearly one million vehicles were flooded in Texas and Florida during recent hurricanes. Landry says these flood-damaged vehicles could end up on the streets and sold to unsuspecting car buyers.
“Today, it’s estimated that throughout the nation, there are over 300,000 flood damaged vehicles from past disasters. I don’t want you to get taken for a ride.”

A Senate committee will hear the so-called “sanctuary cities” bill Tuesday. The House-approved measure would prohibit cities that do not fully cooperate with immigration authorities from receiving certain state grants. Attorney General Jeff Landry supports the proposal and doesn’t understand why local governments would try to establish a sanctuary city.

John McLindon, the attorney for Blane Salamoni, believes Attorney General Jeff Landry will not seek state charges against his client. Salamoni is one of the officers involved in the fatal police shooting of Alton Sterling and he’s been cleared of any federal civil rights charges. McLindon points to the thorough investigation already conducted by the DOJ on why he thinks Salamoni will not be charged.
