Major construction begins today just west of Baton Rouge

Work has begun on a major road and bridge renovation project on Interstate 10 from LA 347, the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge to LA 77 in Grosse Tete, just west of Baton Rouge. Construction will run day and night to have the project finished by June 2019. DOTD spokesperson Rodney Mallet says a lot of work needs to be done.

Road work starts Saturday by Lake Charles to impact interstate traffic for four months

Four months of construction work will begin Saturday on the I-10 bridge in Lake Charles. DOTD spokesman Rodney Mallet says 8.5 million dollar project will initially close the inside eastbound lane so crews can replace expansion joints on the nearly 60-year-old structure.

President Trump has asked Congress to pass a one-point-five-trillion-dollar infrastructure funding bill. But will Louisiana see any of those dollars if it passes? State Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson is worried because Louisiana doesn’t have enough state transportation dollars for new projects to receive the federal transportation dollars they are willing to match.

Louisianians have no idea how to drive on ice

Needless to say the icy road conditions are something Louisianians are not familiar with, but there are still motorists out who are required to be at work. State Police Senior Trooper Bryan Lee says based on the number of crashes they saw in a short period of time this morning, plenty of people can't handle a vehicle on the ice. Toll rate has increased on LA1 bridge in Leeville

The toll rate on the LA Highway 1 bridge at Leeville in LaFourche Parish went up as much as 25% on January 1st for vehicles to access Port Fourchon and Grand Isle. The scheduled increased is mandated as part of the bond agreement when the bridge was constructed in 2009.

Over 2,000 wrecks on I-10 between Lafayette and Baton Rouge in 3 year period

DOTD gets $60 million dollars, looking at completing several projects

The Louisiana Department of Transportation has received an additional 60-million-dollars from the federal government for highway projects. Each year, the Federal Highway Administration allocates road repair funds not used by other states or national programs. DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson says the money will be used to fix several bridges.

Construction nearly complete on I-20 in Webster Parish

The state department of transportation is hopeful the major overlay project on I-20 in Webster Parish will wrap around the Thanksgiving weekend, which would be ahead of schedule. DOTD spokesperson Erin Buchanan says the westbound lanes are complete and contractors are working in the eastbound lanes.

DOTD raising awareness about construction zone safety

The state department of transportation is raising awareness about construction zone safety. DOTD reports a shocking uptick in accidents along I-10 in Acadiana, where crews are working to widen the interstate in each direction. DOTD breaks ground on project to widen Arkansas Rd. in West Monroe

The state Department of Transportation has started a major project on Arkansas Road in Ouachita Parish. DOTD Secretary Dr. Shawn Wilson says with a big boom in residents in West Monroe, there is a serious need for a wider road. He says this construction will increase the traffic capacity in the area.
