Record early snowfall for Monroe

Many residents in north central Louisiana woke up to snow falling on Wednesday and it goes down as the earliest accumulation of snowfall for that part of the state. National Weather Service Shreveport meteorologist Mario Valverde says a light dusting of snow covered several parishes, but the most accumulation was in Monroe.

Approaching cold front to push Hurricane Michael toward Florida Panhandle

Louisiana appears to be out of the path of Hurricane Michael. The storm may have a dangerous impact on the Florida Panhandle with storm surge, heavy rainfall, and hurricane-force winds. As far as an effect on Louisiana, National Weather Service New Orleans Meteorologist Bridgette Lim doesn’t anticipate it will be too bad.

Memorial Day weekend may be washed out by potential tropical system

A low-pressure system has been tagged by the National Hurricane Center for additional research, under the name Invest 90L. The system is currently in the Caribbean Sea and is on track to hit somewhere along the Gulf Coast during memorial weekend. National Weather Service Slidell Meteorologist Danielle Manning says as of now, it appears Louisiana should dodge the worst of it.

Record setting temperatures for May in the mid-90s

It is the middle of May, but we are seeing temperatures in the mid-90s. Michael Hill of the National Weather Service in New Orleans says yesterday’s temperatures were the highest we’ve seen for this time of the year. 

“This is the earliest on record that we have seen temperatures of 95-96 degrees.”

Flooding possible in north and central Louisiana

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for much of North and Central Louisiana. Shreveport National Weather Service forecaster Davyon Hill says several inches of rainfall are expected to fall in the next 24 hours.

"Right now, we're expecting 3 to 6 inches through tomorrow across most of the state with the heaviest totals south and east of the Shreveport area."

NWS: Flooding expected on the Red for the next several days

Flooding in north Louisiana remains a concern as a stubborn storm system dropped several inches of rain this weekend. National Weather Service hydrologist C.S. Ross says they are concerned about flooding on the Red River for the next several days.

Cold weather continues to make a huge impact in Louisiana

Some of the coldest temperatures Louisiana has seen so far are being observed this morning. Some areas are reporting near single digit temperatures while coastal areas are not warmer than the 20’s to start the day off. Lake Charles National Weather Service forecaster Robert Megnia says the entire state is waking up to a chilly morning.

Winter weather impacting the state with snow, ice and freezing rain

The winter storm moving through Louisiana is impacting most of the state with snow, ice, freezing rain and extremely cold temperatures. The storm dumped quite a bit of snow in Shreveport. National Weather Service Meteorologist Matt Hemmingway says forecasts held true for the amount of snow they got.

Kentwood saw the most snow in the state with 6.5 inches

Totals are in for last week’s historic snow event and Kentwood saw the most with 6 and a half inches. That’s according to Shawn O’Neil with the National Weather Service in Slidell, who says parts of the Baton Rouge area saw three to five inches.

North Louisiana under freeze warning & snow in the forecast for Florida Parishes

There’s a lot of talk of wintery mix tomorrow morning and Alek Krautmann with the National Weather Service in Slidell says the Florida Parishes are in for some rain tonight transitioning into sleet and possibly snow by morning. He says we’ll see temperatures in the low 40s throughout today.
