The first ad of the Secretary of State’s race is out, and despite being a nominally non-partisan position, the ad is chock full of red meat for conservatives. It’s being aired by Interim Secretary Kyle Ardoin.

The November election to crown a new Secretary of State is less than a month away, but you may not have noticed with a lack of campaigning from the candidates. Political Analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the reason why is, compared to other positions, candidates for the gig don’t see many donations.

A new poll for the Secretary of State’s special election in November is out, with Democrat Renee Fontenot Free (22%)in the lead, followed by Republicans Julie Stokes and Rick Edmonds (11%). Edmonds commissioned the JMC Analytics poll.
Pollster John Couvillon says a Democrat leading a red state isn’t surprising, considering there are five republicans running.

The state kicks off voter registration week today, ahead of a hotly contested midterm season nationally, that may not yield many surprises in the Bayou State. Statewide, the election will give voters a chance to decide on congressional races and the special election for the Secretary of State’s office.

Nine people have signed up for the Secretary of State's race, including interim Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin, who had said for months he would not seek the position. The Baton Rouge Republican said he changed his mind ten minutes before qualifying ended on Friday afternoon.

Qualifying for the November 6th election is underway. It will give voters a final roster of candidates for Congressional seats, and the special election to replace Tom Schedler as Secretary of State. A former Louisiana Senator is now throwing his name in the hat for another elected position. A.G. Crowe, a Republican of Pearl River, has announced his candidacy for Secretary of State in the fall election. Crowe says he’s entering the race with an extensive business background and that one of his first concerns is bringing in technology from the private sector, to bring the office up to date.

The first entrants into the race for the Secretary of State’s office are trickling in, in the wake of a poll that showed nearly a third of Louisianans are undecided on who they will be voting for come November. Attorney General’s Director of the Public Protection Division, and Democrat, Renee Fontenot Free says her years of public service make her the ideal candidate.
