Louisiana voters decide to keep Republican Kyle Ardoin as Secretary of State. Ardoin defeated Democrat Gwen Collins-Greenup in Saturday's special election.
Ardoin received 59% of the vote in a low voter turnout election. The 51-year-old Ville Platte native has served as interim Secretary of State since Tom Schedler resigned in May amid a sexual harassment scandal.

Early voting numbers for the Secretary of State’s election run-off set for December 8th is off to a rough start, with a huge drop off relative to the historic participation levels in the last mid-term. JMC Analytics Pollster John Couvillon says early voting numbers are down compared to the 2016 Senate run-off.

The Secretary of State’s run-off pits the now Interim Secretary, against a Democratic political newcomer from East Feliciana parish. Interim Secretary Kyle Ardoin, the Republican in the race was appointed assistant secretary to Tom Schedler in 2010, and says his eight years in a leadership position in that office makes him the most qualified candidate.

Tomorrow voters head to the polls to cast their ballots, but there hasn’t been much publicity for the statewide election of a new Secretary of State.
