Climatologist: expect rain through the 4th of July

Soggy conditions are expected for the 4th of July as a tropical wave moves across the southern half of Louisiana. State Climatologist Barry Keim says the highest rainfall totals are expected along the coastline.

“So expecting rain totals of about two inches along the coastal zone, that’ll taper down to about a half inch or less up in northern parishes.”

State officials want firework safety to be top of mind this Fourth of July

Many Americans cannot imagine the Fourth of July without fireworks, but state officials say it's very important to keep safety measures in mind when setting off the colorful and loud pyrotechnics. Brant Thompson with the State Fire Marshal's Office says the gravity of exercising care while using fireworks cannot be over stated.

Traveling over the 4th of July weekend increases the chances of home theft

As many Americans are traveling over the holiday weekend, thieves are on the lookout for those leaving their homes. State Farm saw 1,420 theft claims in Louisiana in 2015. State Farm spokesperson Roszell Gadson says July is the third highest month for home theft claims. He says it’s very important that your home is prepared during the 4th of July weekend if you’re going to be hitting the road.

More people than ever traveling for the Independence Day weekend

Starting today through Monday, more Americans than ever are expected to be hitting the road for the 4th of July weekend. AAA Spokesperson Don Redman says close to 43 million people will be traveling over the holiday, which is five million more than Memorial Day.

Bayou Teche Brewery to release limited edition beer on 4th of July

Arnaudville's Bayou Teche Brewing is releasing a new beer for the 4th of July holiday. President Karlos Knott says the brew, named 31 Stout, was created in honor of 31 United States service members who lost their lives in the force mission in Afghanistan.

Gas prices at all time low for Independence Day

As many travelers hit the road today, they'll be seeing the lowest gas prices for the Independence Day holiday in years. Gregg Laskoski with says when drivers pull up to the pump, they'll be paying about 95 cents a gallon less than last year.

AAA projects a lot of people traveling for 4th of July

The American Automobile Association projects nearly 42 million Americans will travel for the 4th of July holiday, the most since 2007. AAA Spokesperson Don Redman says the fact that Independence Day falls on a weekend helps but that's not the only reason people are out on the road.
