LDWF agents help Texas authorities with Harvey response

Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents are on hand to aid our Texas neighbors as they deal with epic flooding in the Houston area. Adam Einck with LDWF says the agents will assist the Texas authorities with search and rescue efforts.

Gueydan man pleads guilty to shooting whooping crane in federal court

State Officials are extremely serious about crimes when it comes to enforcing wildlife laws, and now a man is going to spend 45 days in federal prison and pay a $2500 fine for killing a whooping crane in 2014. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries spokesman Adam Einck says the accused is 21-year-old Lane Thibodeaux of Vermilion Parish.

Father, son cited for killing Louisiana black bear

A father and son have been cited for killing a Louisiana black bear in Iberia Parish. Adam Einck with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says agents found the bear shot to death in November of 2015. He says the bullet was pulled from the bear during a necropsy.

Three Jennings men cited for allegedly hunting alligators from truck bed

Three Jennings men have been arrested for allegedly shooting alligators from the bed of a pickup truck. Adam Einck with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says 24-year-old Rhett Guidry, 19-year-old Dodie Bouley, and 23-year-old Kyle Thibodaux were cited for illegally hunting gators, among other things.

Girl Scout troop rescued by LDWF agents in Natchitoches Parish

A Texas Girl Scout group is safe after being rescued from Saline Bayou In Natchitoches Parish. Adam Einck with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says they received an alert from friends and family around 9pm on May 28th that a kayaking group of three adults and six juveniles had never returned to their destination.

Grand Chenier men sentenced after illegally collecting over 500 alligator eggs

Two men from Cameron Parish must pay hundreds of dollars in fines for stealing over 500 alligator eggs. That’s according to Adam Einck with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, who says 48-year-old Paul Canik and 25-year-old Christopher Trahan, both are from Grand Chenier, have been sentenced by a state judge for what they did in July of 2015.

Wildlife agent shot five times to be transferred to rehab facility

The state wildlife agent who was shot five times is scheduled to be released from the hospital Thursday. 25-year-old Tyler Wheeler of Monroe was shot in the temple, jaw, shoulder, arm and back while questioning a motorist last month in Morehouse Parish. LDWF Spokesperson Adam Einck says Wheeler is expected to make a full recovery.

One person dead after swamp tour boat collides with mud boat in Lafourche Parish

One person is dead after an air boat on a swamp tour collided with a mud boat yesterday afternoon in Bayou Des Allemends. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Spokesperson Adam Einck says the crash occurred near Mud Lake in Lafourche Parish and the mud boat operator was ejected into the water.

LDWF: Boating fatalities up significantly from last year

Fatalities on Louisiana’s waterways are well above what they were at this time last year, as 7 people died in boating accidents in September alone. Adam Einck with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says there have been 22 deaths so far this year, compared to only 13 through September of last year. He says they’ve noticed some consistencies in all the fatalities they’ve investigated.

LDWF investigating a boat crash in St. Mary Parish that claimed the life of a 7-year-old

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating a boat crash in St. Mary Parish that claimed the life of a 7-year-old girl. LDWF Spokesperson Adam Einck says at around 2 p.m. yesterday a bass boat with one passenger, collided with an aluminum vessel carrying four people in Bayou Cheramie. He says the collision caused Jaidyn Montet to hit her head.
