Five Amite residents are facing federal charges for allegedly torturing a 22-year-old autistic woman, forcing her to eat dog feces and drink her mother’s ashes. But LSU Health Science Center New Orleans Forensic Psychiatrist Graham Spruiell wants to caution the public against assuming the defendants are suffering from mental illness.

Fans not allowed at the next Bogalusa-Amite football game

When Amite and Bogalusa High School play each other in football this October, their fans will not be allowed to attend. That’s the result of the penalties handed down by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. LHSAA Assistant Director Keith Alexander says the two schools were involved in a bench clearing brawl towards the end of their playoff game last November.

Football season over for Amite High as judge dismisses lawsuit

A state judge has dismissed the lawsuit filed by the Tangipahoa Parish School System on behalf of Amite High School in an effort to lift the football team's suspension from the Class 3A playoffs.  The LHSAA removed the Amite team from the playoffs after a bench clearing brawl broke out in their quarterfinal win.

Judge to rule on whether LHSAA's suspension of Amite High will stand

Today, a state judge will hear the lawsuit seeking to reverse the Louisiana High School Athletic Association's decision to remove the Amite football team from the Class 3A playoffs following a bench clearing brawl in their quarterfinal win over Bogalusa.  LHSAA Executive Director Eddie Bonine says sportsmanship rules clearly state that players who leave the bench area during a fight are automatically suspended for the next game.

Amite ruled out of the high school football playoffs

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association executive committee has removed the Amite football team from the Class 3A playoffs as a result of a benches clearing fight that erupted in a quarterfinal victory over Bogalusa. Tangipahoa School system attorney Chris Moody says they've filed a suit and hope a state judge reverses what he calls a "harsh" decision.
