Documentary brings light to the 2013 Bayou Corne sinkhole

In August of 2013, a sinkhole in Bayou Corne swallowed swamps and resulted in a mandatory evacuation of 350 residents. The salt mining company, Texas Brine, drilled through a salt dome, which created the sinkhole.

Five years later, film producer Victoria Greene released “The Forgotten Bayou”, a documentary on the lives of those impacted, Texas Brine, and scientists and government officials.

Pierre Part man arrested for allegedly accidentally texting Sheriff's deputy about drug deal

A 39-year-old Pierre Part man has been arrested for allegedly accidentally texting an Assumption Parish Sheriff’s deputy about a potential drug deal. Commander Lonny Cavalier says on Friday night, Dwayne Hebert sent a text stating his crystal meth product was ready for delivery.

Today marks the 4 year anniversary of the Assumption Parish sinkhole in Bayou Corne, and leaders say many residents have moved on -- but there are some who don't want to let go. John Boudreaux is the Emergency Preparedness Director at Assumption Parish. He says this has been an unprecedented event.

Bayou Corne sinkhole seems to have stabilized

The massive sinkhole that formed about four years ago in Bayou Corne has showed reduced action and is close to stable. That’s the word from Assumption Parish Director of Emergency Operations, John Boudreaux, who says the sinkhole shows some growth but nothing intense.

Cleanup underway after deadly tornadoes ripped through south Louisiana

Cleanup is underway in several south Louisiana parishes after eight tornadoes touched down during a powerful storm system that roared through the state Tuesday. St. James spokesperson Brandon Keller says two people were killed when one of twisters leveled an RV park in Convent.

Avoylles corrections officer arrested in connection with prisoner escape

The Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested an Avoyelles Parish Correctional Center officer in connection with the escape of a female inmate last week.  Sheriff's office spokesman Robert Martin says 47-year-old Michelle George reported that Felicia Daigle escaped while being transported from Assumption to Avoylles parish.

Two horses shot to death in Assumption Parish

The Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of two horses in Bertrandville.  Sheriff Mike Waguespack says they were contacted by the owner after he discovered his horses lying on the ground.

The massive sinkhole in Bayou Corne happened about 2 years ago and resident frustrations over the massive disaster continue.  The collapsed salt dome caused the evacuations of 350 people.

8-year-old unrestrained child killed in crash; driver arrested

State Police say a tragic accident in Assumption Parish last night claimed the life of an 8 year old child and injured a 4 year old and a 5 year old. Trooper Evan Harrell says a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Brian Gilton of Napoleonville was traveling on La 1 near Howard Lane around 9pm Sunday when he ran off the road.

Autopsy in Assumption Parish Memorial Day murders indicates victims were stabbed many times

More information has been released in the brutal Memorial Day stabbing deaths of the father and son from Bayou L'Ourse in Assumption Parish. Sheriff Mike Waguespack believes 52-year-old Mark Massoletti and 23-year-old Michael Massoletti were savagely murdered by a crazed neighbor on May 26th and autopsy results are in.
