Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie has submitted his letter of retirement, and today is reportedly his last day. It's not a huge surprise as Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome had said since she took office that new leadership was needed at BRPD in the wake of the Alton Sterling shooting. She said Monday that Dabadie is an honorable man.

Teenager arrested after allegedly beating elderly couple in Kenner with hammer

A 16-year-old has been arrested after allegedly beating an elderly couple with a hammer inside their Kenner home. Police responded after the 70-year-old woman walked to her neighbor’s home covered in blood asking for help for she and her husband. Kenner Police Lt. Brian McGregor says the teen also stole the victims’ vehicle and they learned he drove to Baton Rouge.

Lawyers representing Alton Sterling's children file wrongful death lawsuit

Lawyers representing Alton Sterling's children have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Baton Rouge, it's police department and police chief and the two white police officers who were involved in last summer's fatal shooting of the black man. Attorney Chris Stewart says a culture of racial bias among Baton Rouge cops fueled the shooting.

The Baton Rouge Police Department arrests a woman for allegedly attempting to kill her 8 year old son by slitting his throat. Cpl L'Jean McKneely says the suspect, 40-year-old Gloria Ross, grabbed a kitchen knife as her kids were getting ready for school, and approached the young victim.

Analyst: BRPD officers will claim they feared for their lives in fatal Sterling shooting

Now that we have an idea of how the Baton Rouge Police Department plans to defend the killing of Alton Sterling, experts believe the cops will claim they feared for their lives. A warrant filed this week by BRPD indicates Sterling resisted arrest, then the officers saw him reach for a gun before shooting. Legal analyst Tim Meche believes the cops will claim they had no choice.

Officials: LSU player stabbed multiple times during fight at bar near campus early Tuesday

An LSU football player was involved in a bar fight early Tuesday in which he was stabbed multiple times, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department. School officials identify the victim as tight end Dillon Gordon. BRPD's Cpl. Don Coppola says they responded to a physical altercation Reggie's around 12:45 this morning.

Baton Rouge Police searching for suspects in fatal strip mall parking lot shooting

A Prarieville man succumbed to his injuries at a hospital after being shot in a Baton Rouge strip mall parking lot, and authorities are searching for the suspects. BRPD Lt. Jonny Dunnam says they were called to the scene after receiving reports that a black SUV had driven through a fence between the parking lot and College Dr. before crashing into a truck in the road.

BRPD arrests Dairy Queen employee with "several diseases" for spitting on cop's burger

The Baton Rouge Police Department says a Dairy Queen employee is under arrest for allegedly spitting on the hamburger of an officer. Corporal Don Copolla says a Lt. with BRPD ordered his burger and noticed a clear substance on top of the bun so he notified the manager who reviewed camera footage of the incident.

Pregnant woman shot and killed, baby saved

The Baton Rouge Police Department says they still have no suspects in the case of the pregnant woman who was found shot dead in her apartment. Corporal Don Don Coppola says they believe 29 year old Brittney Mills opened her door to someone she likely knew.
