Slaughter woman arrested and charged for murder by poisoning

Googling “how common is barium poisoning” on your phone might not be a good idea if you plan on poisoning someone. That information is in the warrant for 50-year-old Meshell Hale of Slaughter, who was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the 2015 poisoning death of a Damian Skipper. Baton Rouge Police Sergeant Don Coppola says the New Orleans homicide detectives assisted in the arrest.

One Baton Rouge police officer fired, another suspended in shooting of Alton Sterling

Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul announces officer Blane Salamoni has been fired, while fellow officer Howie Lake has been suspended for three days in the July 2016 shooting of Alton Sterling.
Paul came to the decision after an internal review of the altercation between Sterling and the two officers. Video evidence shows the situation quickly escalated and the episode ended when Salamoni shot Sterling six times.

BRPD: Former Saints & LSU star Tracy Porter arrested on domestic abuse and drug charges

Former Saints and LSU star Tracy Porter has been arrested on drug and domestic battery charges. Sgt. Don Coppola with the Baton Rouge Police Department says on October 5th, the victim alleged she visited Porter to get her keys back from him, then the two became involved in an argument that got physical.

Kenneth Gleason arrested in two Baton Rouge murders; possibly racially motivated

The Baton Rouge Police Department announces Kenneth Gleason is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the random deaths of two black men last week that cops had said could be racially motivated. BRPD Interim Police Chief Jonny Dunnam said Gleason is also being charged for allegedly shooting up a black family's home near his parents' house.

Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie has submitted his letter of retirement, and today is reportedly his last day. It's not a huge surprise as Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome had said since she took office that new leadership was needed at BRPD in the wake of the Alton Sterling shooting. She said Monday that Dabadie is an honorable man.

Teenager arrested after allegedly beating elderly couple in Kenner with hammer

A 16-year-old has been arrested after allegedly beating an elderly couple with a hammer inside their Kenner home. Police responded after the 70-year-old woman walked to her neighbor’s home covered in blood asking for help for she and her husband. Kenner Police Lt. Brian McGregor says the teen also stole the victims’ vehicle and they learned he drove to Baton Rouge.

Lawyers representing Alton Sterling's children file wrongful death lawsuit

Lawyers representing Alton Sterling's children have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Baton Rouge, it's police department and police chief and the two white police officers who were involved in last summer's fatal shooting of the black man. Attorney Chris Stewart says a culture of racial bias among Baton Rouge cops fueled the shooting.

The Baton Rouge Police Department arrests a woman for allegedly attempting to kill her 8 year old son by slitting his throat. Cpl L'Jean McKneely says the suspect, 40-year-old Gloria Ross, grabbed a kitchen knife as her kids were getting ready for school, and approached the young victim.

Analyst: BRPD officers will claim they feared for their lives in fatal Sterling shooting

Now that we have an idea of how the Baton Rouge Police Department plans to defend the killing of Alton Sterling, experts believe the cops will claim they feared for their lives. A warrant filed this week by BRPD indicates Sterling resisted arrest, then the officers saw him reach for a gun before shooting. Legal analyst Tim Meche believes the cops will claim they had no choice.
