Congressman Garret Graves spoke before the Baton Rouge Press Club to express his frustration with the flood recovery and what he hopes to accomplish with President- elect Trump. Graves says the fact that some families will not be placed in a FEMA trailer until after Christmas is ridiculous.

The House Appropriations Committee has approved a spending plan for next fiscal year that fully funds TOPS. The governor’s proposed budget only funded a third of the costs associated with the program. Chairman, Cameron Henry of Metairie, says they came up with the $183-million to fully fund TOPS by taking dollars from other departments.

Governor Bobby Jindal spoke before the Baton Rouge Press Club to discuss the administration’s accomplishments over the last eight years. Jindal says he knows some of his policies were unpopular, but believes he did what was best for the state. The governor says he wanted to bring change to the state and it’s important to look at the positive results.
“We’re a top 10 state for job creation, we’ve had 8 credit upgrades, our graduation rates have gone up. We’ve cut the number of failing schools in half. We’ve got 90,000 jobs coming into this state.”More

Democrat John Bel Edwards and Republican David Vitter went toe to toe during an hour long debate at the Baton Rouge Press Club. The two candidates for governor made the case on why they should be elected November 21st. Edwards says if elected, he will govern in a way that is bi-partisan and that reaches out to everyone across the state.

The four candidates running for Lt. Governor discussed how they would improve the film industry in the state at a forum hosted by the Baton Rouge Press Club. Republican Billy Nungesser says when many people see movies filmed in Louisiana, they’re drawn to visit so we need to make changes to the current film tax credit incentive program to keep filmmakers coming to the state.

The four candidates for Lt. Governor are slated to be at a forum hosted by the Baton Rouge Press Club today. Political Analyst Clancy Dubos says it’s a very close race between the Democrat Kip Holden and Republicans John Young and Billy Nungesser, because they have the most money and name recognition.

LSU President F. King Alexander is concerned about the continuing decline in state funding for higher education. Alexander says if trends keep continuing, Louisiana will become the second state to not pay a penny on higher education by the year 2027. Alexander hopes the trend reverses with the next governor.

The Baton Rouge Press Club was set to host a forum Monday involving the major candidates in the Attorney General’s race but Republican Incumbent Buddy Caldwell canceled on the event. Political Analyst Bernie Pinsonat says it doesn’t serve Caldwell any good to debate Republican candidates Jeff Landry and Marty Maley.
