Louisiana Radio Network looks back at our biggest stories in 2017. One of the most gripping which made national headlines was the death of LSU pledge Max Gruver on September 14th. LSU Officials said Gruver died during an alleged hazing incident, and a month later East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. Beau Clark said the student had a blood alcohol level of .495.

East Baton Rouge Coroner releases preliminary autopsy on LSU fraternity pledge

East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. Beau Clark has released preliminary autopsy findings on the body of the 18-year-old LSU student who died in what the university had called a possible hazing incident at his fraternity. Clark says they did not find any internal or external signs of trauma on Maxwell Gruver.

EBR coroner says long way to go to address opioid epidemic

Even after lawmakers passed two laws aimed at addressing the state’s opioid epidemic, experts say more can be done to solve the growing problem. East Baton Rouge Parish coroner Dr. Beau Clark says the new laws are phase one, which is to stop creating new addicts by limiting opioid prescriptions.

Drug called ‘pink’ has made its way to Bayou State and is more potent than heroin

A new drug called ‘pink’ is hitting the streets in Louisiana and is more deadly than heroin. East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. Beau Clark says pink is a synthetic opioid combined with Fentanyl. He says this drug has all of the same effects as heroin.

Officials are once again warning the public about more designer drugs that are making the rounds with a high potential of overdose. East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. Beau Clark says a recent death as been confirmed to be directly related to the use of "Novel Psychoactive or Synthetic Opiod Substances."

11th life claimed by flood waters

An 11th life has been claimed by the flood waters that have ravaged south Louisiana. Five of the deaths have occurred in East Baton Rouge Parish. EBR Coroner Dr. Beau Clark says the latest victim is William Borne, who is the founder and former CEO of Amedisys. Clark says Borne was found at around 11 a.m. today.

Autopsy: Law enforcement officers died of multiple gun shot wounds

The autopsy findings of the three officers killed in the police ambush by Gavin Long have been released. East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. Beau Clark says each officer’s death was ruled a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds.

EBR Coroner says heroin epidemic getting worse

The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Beau Clark reports a record number in deaths in the parish due to heroin, in 2015. Clark says this is about a 9-percent increase from 2013. He says we still have two more weeks left in the year, so there is a chance that the number could be even higher.

The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office and Capital Area Human Services are teaming up to raise awareness about the growing heroin and synthetic marijuana problem in the area. Coroner Dr. Beau Clark says his office has already seen 24 heroin overdose deaths so far this year. He says the message of this campaign is clear.

Suspect in deputy US marshal's death dies

Jamie Croom, the New Roads man accused of killing three people including a US deputy marshal, has died from injuries suffered during a shootout with authorities yesterday in Baton Rouge.  East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner, Dr. Beau Clark, says the exchange of gunfire in the attempt to arrest Croom has now claimed two lives.
