The Governor’s Office is holding a statewide blood drive today amid a supply shortage following Hurricane Harvey. Tina Martinez with LifeShare Blood Centers says because of the hurricane’s destruction, many communities have not been able to donate blood to support the medical needs of local patients.

The Governor’s office hosts a blood drive today in honor of the three law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the ambush in Baton Rouge on Sunday.
Deputy Chief of Staff in the Governor’s Office of Programs and Planning Johnny Anderson says they wanted to show support and come together during this difficult time in our state. He says they wanted to provide a gift to the community.

LifeShare Blood Centers say they are in critical need of donated Type O Negative blood. Spokesperson Tommie Langlois says O Negative is the so-called universal donor type, meaning anyone can be transfused with Type O Negative.
