Tax relief available for victims of 2016 flood

Recent flood victims can qualify for flood rebate dollars by re-filing your 2016 tax returns. Basically, if you lost more than $500 that wasn’t covered by insurance or government grants you can now deduct the difference from your 2016 income tax return.

The wholesale changes touch everything from investment returns to charitable donations, and radically alters tax season for most Louisianans. Procrastinators have a few extra days to file federal tax returns

Time is running out to file your federal income taxes, but procrastinators have a couple extra days. Baton Rouge Tax Preparer Brandon Lagarde says tax day is traditionally April 15, but it falls on a Saturday this year, which means the deadline would usually be Monday. But he says the nation’s capital will observe Emancipation Day on Monday.

Tax filing season begins today

Today marks the start of tax season, as Louisiana residents can begin filing federal and state income taxes. Baton Rouge CPA Brandon Lagarde says if you plan to use a tax preparer to file your taxes, make sure you have all your documentation together and organized.
