Dead baby found in Tickfaw garbage truck likely stillborn

Tangipahoa Parish authorities say they believe the 3 pound baby boy found in the back of a Tickfaw garbage truck was likely a stillborn. Sheriff Daniel Edwards says they’re searching for the child’s mother, and have honed in on the likely dumping location after determining where the corpse was located relative to other trash in the truck that had been compacted.

Three arrests made after threats made to Tangipahoa schools

Three teens have been arrested in connection with two alleged social media threats made against Tangipahoa Parish Schools. Sheriff Daniel Edwards says a 17-year-old female and another juvenile are charged in spreading a post that said, “Don’t go to school Monday. A school shooting is going to happen and they are warning everyone.” Edwards says that resulted his deputies sweeping the school before allowing students on campus.

Arson results in $1 million in damage to Amite Walmart

An Amite Walmart that was set on fire recently sustained over a million dollars in damage. That’s according to Sheriff Daniel Edwards, who says much of the damage was to the inventory in the store, not structural damage to the building. He says 45-year-old Larry Schouest of Hammond combined chemicals to start the fire.

Police unsure of motive in home fire that killed elderly Ponchatoula woman

Authorities are still not sure why a Vermillion Parish man set fire to a home killing an 89-year-old Ponchatoula woman who lived there. Tangipahoa Sheriff Daniel Edwards says 26-year-old Timothy Rouchon of Abbeville is currently being held in Livingston Parish on an unrelated charge. He says they don’t know of a motive, but the suspect did know Dorothy Poche.

Governor John Bel Edwards defends his brother Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards following FBI raids at both the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Hammond Police Department. An FBI spokesperson says they were carrying out court ordered actions during the December 15 raids. But Edwards says he doesn’t know what the federal agents were looking for.

Arrest puts meth-induced crime spree to an end

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards says 30-year-old Brian Anthony went on a violent drug induced crime spree when he fatally shot 27-year-old Heather Cox. Anthony was taken into custody after Cox’s body was found Tuesday morning, dead from a gunshot wound. Edwards says the two had gotten into an argument over selling crystal meth.

Student arrested for alleged bomb threats at Ponchatoula High

Arrest made in online threat to Hammond schools

Authorities in Tangipahoa Parish say a 14-year-old has been arrested after allegedly making an online threat against Hammond Schools early this morning.  Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards says the suspect was taken into custody around 9AM.
