An early morning crash in the Village of Tangipahoa claimed the lives of two people, including the former Mayor of the Village of Tangipahoa and retired NFL player Michael Dyson, according to State Police. Trooper Dustin Dwight says the 48-year-old Dyson was traveling down US 51 on his motorcycle at a high rate of speed.

38 children sent to the hospital after school bus overturns in St. Helena Parish

A school bus overturned in St. Helena Parish this morning, sending dozens of children to area hospitals. State Trooper Dustin Dwight says the bus was travelling on LA 43 about to make a left hand turn near Greensburg when it was hit by another vehicle.

State Police remind drivers not to race trains after two die in Tangipahoa crash

Following a fatal train crash in Natalbany, State Police reminds drivers not to race trains. Trooper Dustin Dwight says yesterday 23-year-olds Colton Williams and Justin Long of Tickfaw were in the vehicle at a railroad crossing just north of Hammond when they went around the downed cross rail.

Slidell man arrested from possessing 31 terabytes of child porn

Louisiana State Police has arrested a Slidell man on 500 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. Trooper Dustin Dwight says 73-year-old Lanier Lively was sharing pornographic files involving juveniles over the internet. He says after executing a search warrant of his house, authorities found massive amounts of suspected child pornography.

Skateboarder killed in two-vehicle hit and run in Hammond

State police are looking for two vehicles involved in a fatal hit and run that took the life of a skateboarder in Hammond. Trooper Dustin Dwight says 26-year-old Erin Gerhard was skateboarding down the right side of University Avenue near SLU’s campus around 10pm last night when he was hit by two different vehicles.

An Amite man has been arrested following a fatal hit and run on highway 443 near Hammond early Tuesday morning. State Police Trooper Dustin Dwight says 32-year old Brandon Fowler hit 30-year-old bicyclist Anand Asi of Hammond with his truck.

An Independence Police Officer is now behind bars after he allegedly used his position to steal currency from non-English speaking Hispanic males during traffic stops. State Police spokesperson Dustin Dwight says 25-year-old Laquinton Banks is facing several charges.

LSP and DOTD partner to provide up to date traffic notices

State Police announces they will use the Louisiana Department of Transportation’s website, twitter accounts, and smart phone app to relay information about traffic crashes, congestion and roadway construction. Trooper Dustin Dwight says LSP currently uses the Nixle alert system to provide notifications but now they’ll work even more closely with DOTD to give traffic updates.

Bicyclist killed in Tangipahoa Parish crash

State Police say a two vehicle crash in Tangipahoa Parish has claimed the life of a bicyclist.  Trooper Dustin Dwight says the unidentified cyclist was traveling on the US 190 Tangipahoa River Bridge late Monday night.
