The Louisiana Health Department will make flu shots available at parish health clinics from 2 until 6:30 this afternoon. LDH Immunization director Dr. Frank Welch says a similar event was conducted last January during a rough flu season that saw more than 1,600 deaths in Louisiana.

With flu season starting soon, the Louisiana Health Department is holding flu vaccine clinics, including one Monday in Thibodaux. Louisiana immunization director Dr. Frank Welch says the flu vaccine clinics are a test run for a more serious health emergency.
Welch says similar setups were done in the time of polio and says the ability to execute this type of operation is one that needs continual practice.

The Louisiana Department of Health is extending its free flu shot drive after initially planning to end the program Monday. Immunization Director Dr. Frank Welch says they were excited to extend the program after a very successful two week run.

The flu season in Louisiana is ramping up and as the Bayou State has surpassed other states with the number of influenza cases. The state’s flu bug expert, Dr. Frank Welch, says five out of 100 visits to the doctor are for flu like symptoms. He says there is a very nasty stain of flu going around this year.

In the past week, Louisiana has seen an increase in the number of flu cases around the state. That’s according to Medical Director for the state Immunization Program Dr. Frank Welch who says four out of every 100 people who visit the doctor have the flu. He says if you got the flu shot, you should be protected.
