Bossier Parish couple honored as longest known married couple for third straight year

For the third straight year, a couple from Bossier Parish is the longest known married couple in the state. Louisiana Family Forum President Gene Mills says 103-year-old Lawrence Player and 97-year-old Varrie Player of Benton have been married 82 years and they celebrated the terrific accomplishment this past weekend with a cake.

ACLU takes legal action for man denied benefits after his husband's death

A Louisiana man is fighting to receive survivor benefits after his husband died. Marjorie Esman with the ACLU of Louisiana says William Conley passed away in February of 2015, and his husband Gerald Beem has been trying to get social security benefits ever since.

Supreme Court abortion ruling gets mixed responses from public

People on both sides of the Texas abortion Supreme Court ruling are sounding off on the issue. The ruling overturned a law that restricted women’s access to abortion clinics. That’s according to Executive Director of the National Organization for Women in Louisiana, Angela Adkins. She hopes this paves the way for the similar law in Louisiana to be struck down.

Bill that creates legal framework for surrogacy heads to the House floor

Legislation that establishes a legal framework for surrogacy births is heading to the House floor. Under current law, a child born to a surrogate is considered the infant’s mother. Metairie Rep. Joseph Lopinto wants to change the law so the genetic parents are immediately the legal guardians of the child.

Once again a Benton couple is recognized as Louisiana's Longest Known Married Couple

Louisiana’s Longest Know Married Couple of 2016 has been announced by the Louisiana Family Forum. For the second year in a row, Lawrence and Varrie Player have been the married the longest in Louisiana, tying the knot 81 years ago. LFF President Gene Mills says Lawrence is 101-years-old and Varrie is 97.

Planned Parenthood plans to rally outside governor's mansion

Planned Parenthood and its supporters will hold a rally this afternoon in front of the governor’s mansion to protest Governor Bobby Jindal’s decision to defund Planned Parenthood. Jindal ordered for the canceling of the Medicaid contract that the state has with the organization. Planned Parenthood’s Raegan Carter says the governor’s decision will make it harder for over 5-thousand low income Louisianans to receive high quality affordable healthcare.

LFF 2015 Longest Married Couple announced

Louisiana's Longest Known Married couple for 2015 has been announced by the Louisiana Family Forum. Executive Director Gene Mills says Lawrence and Varrie Player of Benton celebrated 80 years of marriage last month. He says when they wed, he was 21 and she was 15.
