After a 26-year absence, the Hammond Air Show returns this weekend

This weekend, Hammond will host its first airshow in 26 years at the Regional Airport. The five-hour show features sky divers, classic bi-planes, and fighter jets, including the high tech F-22. 

“The premier fighter jet which was asked by 300 shows to appear, and they picked 28, and we were one of the 28. It’s a recruiting tool for the government,” said mayor Pete Panepinto.

State Police has released new details in the officer-involved shooting that killed 23-year-old Coltin LeBlanc of Loranger in downtown Hammond in the early morning hours of September 27th. State Police Lt. Nick Manale explains why the traffic stop occurred in the first place.

Eyewitness: Suspect tried to drive off in fatal police shooting

State Police say one of their Troopers used deadly force on a suspect in Hammond just before 1 AM Thursday morning. Authorities identify the deceased man as 23-year-old Coltin Brennan Leblanc of Loranger.
 
LSP says one of their troopers pulled LeBlanc’s vehicle over in the downtown area. A Hammond resident who witnessed the event while at a late night restaurant says it started as a normal traffic stop.

Two arrested in early morning shooting at SELU that injured two student-athletes

Southeastern Louisiana University officials announce two individuals have been arrested in an early morning shooting that injured two student-athletes. Shots rang out at around 3 AM in the parking lot outside of the University Center, where basketball games are played.

Arrest made in online threat to Hammond schools

Authorities in Tangipahoa Parish say a 14-year-old has been arrested after allegedly making an online threat against Hammond Schools early this morning.  Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards says the suspect was taken into custody around 9AM.

Hammond PD: Abducted Baton Rouge couple found at truck stop were strangled to death

The Hammond Police Department says the Baton Rouge couple found dead at a truck stop near I-12 had been strangled and kidnapped from their home. The two have been identified as Denis and Suzanne Duplantier.

Wrong direction accident claims life of Mississippi woman

Louisiana State Police says a Mississippi woman was killed in a fatal wreck during the overnight hours on I-55 in Hammond. Trooper Dustin Dwight says the victim,53-year-old Donna James was not buckled up and heading the wrong way.

Eglin officials: crashed helicopter found, search and rescue turns to recovery

Eglin Air Force Base officials say the wreckage of the Army helicopter that crashed Tuesday night over the Florida Panhandle, killing all eleven on board, has been found.  Eglin Col. Monte Cannon says the wreckage was located yesterday in about 25 feet of water.

4 Louisiana National Guard soldiers missing and presumed dead after chopper crash

The investigation continues today in the Army helicopter crash that killed all 11 servicemen on board during a training mission Tuesday night in the Florida Panhandle.  Of the 11, four were Louisiana National Guard soldiers based out of Hammond.

Man shot and killed by police after attacking his mother

State Police say they are investigating an officer involved shooting for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Department in which a male suspect, who was found attacking his mother was fatally shot by law enforcement.
