The state House has sent legislation that would raise the tax on cigarettes to a conference committee to work out the differences between the two chambers. The House passed the measure raising the tax to 68 cents per pack.

The Senate Finance Committee approves a bill that would increase the tax on a pack of cigarettes 64 cents which is 32 cents higher than what the House agreed to.
The panel also agreed to increase the tax on cigars and vaping products which the bill's author, Bogalusa Representative Harold Ritchie, supports.

The House Ways and Means Committee approves a bill that increases the state's cigarette tax from 36-cents per pack to 68-cents, to match the tax rate in Mississippi. The bill's author, Bogalusa Representative Harold Ritchie, originally proposed a tax increase of over one-dollar, but agreed to the lower tax, so the measure would be approved.

Five major health advocacy groups are teaming up to launch a campaign in support of a bill to raise the state's tax on cigarettes by $1.18 a pack. The American Heart Association is part of the "Invest in a Healthy Louisiana" campaign and its spokesperson Stasha Rhodes says it's time to bring the state's tax on cigarettes to the national average, which is a $1.54 a pack.

Bogalusa Representative Harold Ritchie has filed a bill that would increase the tax on a pack of cigarettes to the national average. The governor has proposed an increase in the state's cigarette tax to the southern regional average, but Ritchie believes the tax on cigarettes should be higher.
