Governor Edwards signs anti-bestiality law

An anti-bestiality law has been signed by Governor Edwards despite initial pushback by supporters of Louisiana’s unconstitutional anti-sodomy law. Louisiana State Director of the Humane Society of the United States, Julia Breaux Melancon, was surprised by the early objections to the legislation. She says the new law will strengthen prohibitions on bestiality and animal cruelty.

A 37-year-old Louisiana chimpanzee won 10-thousand dollars for a sanctuary in northwest Louisiana, because his painting won first place in an online chimp art contest. Kathy Willis-Spraetz, president of the Chimp Haven sanctuary in Keithville, says Brent used his tongue to produce a masterpiece.
