The SPCA says to keep an eye on your dogs this 4th of July

July 5 is one of the busiest days for animal shelters as unrestrained dogs flee their homes from fear of fireworks the night before.

Louisiana SPCA spokesperson Alicia Haefele says the fireworks might be fun for us, but can bring man’s best friend unwanted anxiety.

Independence Day means pyro for many celebrating the holiday. Although fireworks are dangerous, it’s important that you do take into consideration several factors to reduce the risk of negative outcomes if you choose to fire up the festivities.

More people than ever traveling for the Independence Day weekend

Starting today through Monday, more Americans than ever are expected to be hitting the road for the 4th of July weekend. AAA Spokesperson Don Redman says close to 43 million people will be traveling over the holiday, which is five million more than Memorial Day.

Gas prices at all time low for Independence Day

As many travelers hit the road today, they'll be seeing the lowest gas prices for the Independence Day holiday in years. Gregg Laskoski with GasBuddy.com says when drivers pull up to the pump, they'll be paying about 95 cents a gallon less than last year.

AAA projects a lot of people traveling for 4th of July

The American Automobile Association projects nearly 42 million Americans will travel for the 4th of July holiday, the most since 2007. AAA Spokesperson Don Redman says the fact that Independence Day falls on a weekend helps but that's not the only reason people are out on the road.

Louisianans Expected to Spend Big for Independence Day Festivites

Spending on the Independence Day holiday is projected to be up sharply this year, with Louisiana out-spending the national average. The study was done by the Visa credit card company, and spokesman Nat Sillin says expected spending will be up 58% over last year.
