Uber finally makes its way to Monroe and other areas in Ouachita Parish

After a long wait, the car-sharing service, Uber, is finally available in Monroe, West Monroe and areas governed by Ouachita Parish. Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo says his office has spent the last six months working on a contract with Uber and he knows the city is excited it’s finally official.

Monroe Police Chief Holmes retires from post

Monroe Police Chief Quentin Holmes has announced he is going to retire from his post. In a joint news conference with Mayor Jamie Mayo, Holmes said he has been thinking about returning to teaching for quite some time. News outlets had reported that Mayo asked for a resignation which he says is 100% not true.

IBM bringing 400 jobs to Monroe

IBM technology announces plans for a 400-job application development and innovation center in Monroe. Officials say IBM will provide software technology services to clients across the nation and partner with CenturyLink on research and product innovation initiatives. Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo says this is huge for Northeast Louisiana.

McAllister at peace with voter's decision in the 5th District

Fifth District Congressman Vance McAllister failed to make the runoff in his re-election bid.  McAllister finished fourth in yesterday's primary.  McAllister says when he decided to run for re-election, he was going to let the voters make their choice.

Kissing Congressman officially out

Vance McAllister, the so-called Kissing Congressman, finishes 4th in last night's 5th District Congressional primary and will not serve a full term in Washington D.C. Pollster Darrell Glascock says that's not a surprise.

"Based upon my last poll, which was about 8 days ago, he'd had fallen down from the lead and by that time the Dasher campaign had caught him," said Glascock.

McAllister out of the runoff picture?

A new poll on the 5th District race shows incumbent US Senator Vance McAllister failing to make the runoff. The Glascock survey of 500 respondents has the incumbent with 15.7%, trailing Republican Ralph Abraham at 24% and Democrat Jamie Mayo at 18%. Pollster Darrell Glascock says these results were surprising.

US Democrats in Congressional Black Caucus visiting Louisiana today

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus will be in Louisiana today to try to boost black voter turnout with the focus of helping Senator Mary Landrieu's campaign. The 42 member caucus of Democrats say they are pushing Landrieu hard because they want to keep control of the Senate.

New poll shows Mayo leading in the 5th District

A new independent poll conducted on the 5th District Congressional race shows Democratic Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo with a slight lead in a very tight field.  The poll was conducted by Cygnal and surveyed just over 500 voters in the district.

McAllister to face multiple challengers in the 5th District

As of this afternoon, five candidates have signed up to challenge US Representative Vance McAllister in the 5th Congressional District. One of the main republicans in the race signed up Thursday. Zach Dasher is a businessman and nephew of "Duck Dynasty" TV star Phil Robertson. Dasher says if elected, he'll do what the voters want.
