95th State Police cadet training now underway

Training is underway for the 95th cadet class of the Louisiana State Police Training Academy. 65 men and women are participating in the intensive training regimen. Sgt. Jared Sandifer says these individuals have embarked on a difficult 22 week journey where cadets learn about crash investigations, impaired driving detection, leadership skills and more.

State Police makes biggest seizure of child porn ever

State Police say they’ve arrested three people that, together, lead investigators to the largest ever seizure of child pornography by LSP. Sgt. Jared Sandifer says the Special Victims Unit arrested 51-year-old James Dalton Vail of Shreveport, 30-year-old Steven Paul Lucia of LaPlace and 35-year-old Nicholas Bordelon of Hessmer. He says over one million files were seized.

Port Allen man arrested for solicitation of murder

State Police report that a Port Allen man is under arrest after they learned he was attempting to solicit murder.  37-year-old Tommy Joe Gioele is charged with two counts of solicitation of murder.

Crash claims two lives in Livingston Parish

State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Livingston Parish that has left two men dead.  Trooper Jared Sandifer says 50-year-old Lloyd Hutson of Jackson was driving on LA 447 near Walker when he entered a right-hand curve.

New State Police cadet class underway

The State Police Cadet Class #93 has started training to earn the privilege of wearing the "gold boot" badge of the Louisiana State Police.  The cadets will go through 20 weeks of training.

New law: Cell phones are banned in school zones

As most kids head back to the classroom this week State Police is reminding motorists that cell phones are now banned, by law, in a school zone. Trooper Jared Sandifer says using your hand held cell phone at all in a school zone is now illegal.

LSP looking for vehicle that hit child on bicycle July 4th

Louisiana State Police say they are still looking for a vehicle that struck a 7-year-old child who was riding a bike in Brusly on July 4th. Trooper Jared Sandifer says they've been getting numerous tips but nothing is leading to the person suspected of causing this crash.

Two dead in fiery Plaquemine crash

State Police say two men died after the truck they were in crashed into a tree then caught fire in Iberville Parish Wednesday night. Trooper Jared Sandifer says they believe a 53-year-old man was driving his vehicle on La Highway 1148 West of La Hwy 1 around 9:15 last night in Plaquemine.

LSP: Man booked with DWI after driving drunk to police station

State Police say a man from Gonzales is under arrest after he drove drunk to Troop A over the weekend. Trooper Jared Sandifer says 31-year-old Patrick Ruffner called LSP to report that he'd been involved in a hit and run accident on I-10. He says the trooepr who took the call told the man to come file a report at the station.
