35 future State Police cadets will graduate as part of the 97th Louisiana State Police Cadet class today. Sgt. Jared Sandifer says the class was one of the smaller ones from recent memory. They started with 49, but it’s still a very good success rate with 71% of the class graduating.
"That is a very good number. That's going to be 35 more state troopers out there keeping the people of Louisiana safe."

State Police arrest a 20-year-old Kaplan man for a hit and run crash that killed two high school students. Sgt. Jared Sandifer says Tyler Meaux was driving a Ford F-150 and heading the wrong way on U-S 167 Sunday night when he slammed into a Honda Civic, carrying four teenagers.
"Two of those four teenagers were killed as a result of the crash," Sandifer said.

Over the long Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, State Police investigated four fatal crashes, the same number as last year. Sgt. Jared Sandifer says typically fatal crashes around this time are a result of drunk driving or not wearing a seat belt but this year it seemed like the common theme was hit and runs.

State Police announces its 96th Cadet Class will begin at the LSP Training Academy this Sunday. For about 20 weeks, thirty-six men and women, hailing from a variety of backgrounds, will officially begin an intensive training regimen. Sgt. Jared Sandifer.

A state transportation worker was killed Mnday morning near New Iberia after he was hit by an 88-year-old driver. State Police Sergeant Jared Sandifer says 63-year-old DOTD employee Paul Featherston was standing behind a dump truck on LA 31 shortly before 9:00 am.

A 16-year-old driver who wasn't buckled up has died in a crash after she hit livestock that was standing in the middle of the road near the St. Landry/Evangeline Parish line. State Police Sgt. Jared Sandifer says the female victim is identified as Adrian Johnson of Washington.

Law enforcement around the state are teaming up in the Buckle Up in your Truck campaign to make sure pickup truck drivers are wearing their seatbelts. Starting today and lasting until next Thursday, expect to see an abundance of police officers looking for passengers in pickup trucks that are not buckled up.

State Police say it was a deadly weekend on Louisiana's roadways. From Friday through Monday morning, troopers investigated 10 fatal crashes that resulted in the deaths of 15 people. Sgt. Jared Sandifer says these tragedies, which also claimed the lives of children and teenagers, were preventable.

Training is underway for the 95th cadet class of the Louisiana State Police Training Academy. 65 men and women are participating in the intensive training regimen. Sgt. Jared Sandifer says these individuals have embarked on a difficult 22 week journey where cadets learn about crash investigations, impaired driving detection, leadership skills and more.
