Former Marksville marshal Norris Greenhouse Jr. was formally sentenced Wednesday for his involvement in the shooting death of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis.
 
Greenhouse received a seven and a half year sentence as part of a plea deal that has him pleading guilty in Avoyelles Parish to negligent homicide and malfeasance in office.

Former Marksville deputy city marshal Norris Greenhouse Junior accepts a plea deal from the state attorney general’s office that will result in a seven and half prison sentence for the 2015 fatal shooting of six-year-old Jeremy Mardis. Greenhouse was facing life in prison on a charge of second-degree murder. 
 
"His lawyer George Higgins obviously did a masterful job, because the other co-defendant went to trial and got 40 years," legal analyst Tim Meche said.

Avoyelles: Change of venue Hearing set for today in Norris Greenhouse child murder case

A hearing is set for today on a motion to change the venue of Norris Greenhouse Jr.’s trial. He and Derrick Stafford, former Marksville City Marshals, are accused in the death of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis. Stafford was already convicted for attempted manslaughter and manslaughter in Avoyelles Parish. Legal Analyst Tim Meche believes there’s a good chance Greenhouse’s trial will be moved.

Father of slain 6-year-old in Marksville arrested for domestic abuse

The father of the 6-year-old autistic boy killed by a Marksville deputy marshal has been arrested for allegedly trying to strangle his girlfriend. Chief Deputy Steven Martel with the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office says they received a call Saturday about a domestic dispute between 26-year-old Christopher Few and his girlfriend.

Derrick Stafford found guilty of manslaughter

A 12-person jury in Avoyelles Parish has found law enforcement officer Derrick Stafford guilty of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter in the shooting death of a 6-year-old autistic boy. His father, Christopher Few, was also wounded in the shooting that took place at the end of a chase in 2015.
 
Stafford will be sentenced on March 31st. He faces up to 40 years in prison. The jury could have found Stafford guilty of 2nd degree murder, which would have resulted in an automatic life sentence.

Trial underway in fatal shooting of autistic child

The trial begins today for one Marksville City Marshal accused of fatally shooting a 6-year-old boy. 33-year-old Derrick Stafford is one of two officers accused of firing into the victim’s vehicle in November of 2015 killing an autistic child, Jeremy Mardis and injuring his father, Chris Few. Legal Analyst Tim Meche says the graphic body camera video will play a critical part in the case.

Body cam video released of police shooting that killed 6-year-old boy

The body cam video has been released of the police shooting that left a 6-year-old autistic boy dead in Marksville last November. The graphic video shows deputy city marshal Derrick Stafford firing into a vehicle, where Jeremy Mardis was seated in the passenger seat. Legal analyst Tim Meche says it doesn’t look good for Stafford.

Deputy marshal charged with murder of child wants to know if witnesses were hypnotized

One Marksville deputy city marshal charged with murder in the death of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis wants to find out if prosecutors used hypnosis on any of their witnesses. Norris Greenhouse Jr’s attorney, George Higgins, filed a motion to discover if polygraph tests or sodium pentothal were used. Legal Analyst Tim Meche says this is a more common practice than most think.

Trial dates are set for two deputy Marksville city marshals charged with the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy in November. 32-year-old Derrick Stafford and 24-year-old Norris Greenhouse entered pleas of not guilty and will be tried separately in the death of Jeremy Mardis.

A grand jury indicted Norris Greenhouse Jr and Derrick Stafford with second-degree murder for the events that occurred on November 3rd.
