Louisiana’s public school report card is out, and the number of schools scoring “A”s is down while “F”s are up, with 40% of schools ordered to submit plans to improve their performance, but there’s a catch, standards were raised this year. Superintendent of Education John White says the bar has been raised for schools in several areas.

State Superintendent of Education John White says it's time to start paying the state's teachers more money. As a guest on Talk Louisiana with Jim Engster this morning, White discussed the recovery of the economy and increased stability in the budget, now is the time to make sure teacher’s pay is keeping up with competition in other states and other industries.

Council for a Better Louisiana President Barry Erwin says we now know that Superintendent of Education John White had no reason to worry about his job. White received a 3 out of four rating from BESE, which is considered effective and proficient. Erwin says clearly there are those who wanted White to lose his job.

BESE meets behind closed doors to discuss the job status of state Education Superintendent John White. Board member Kathy Edmonston of Gonzales says she would like the entire panel to vote to whether or not White stays in the position he’s held since 2012. White appeared on Talk Louisiana to talk about this upcoming meeting.

The State Department of Education announced today that students in public schools increased average ACT scores for the 4th year in a row, from 19.1 in 2013 to 19.6 today. Superintendent of Education John White said there is also a substantial rise in the number of students achieving college acceptable scores.

The state Department of Education announced today that for the 5th straight year, advanced placement student results have increased dramatically in Louisiana. In 2017, there was a 10% jump from last year in high school students earning college credits.

State Superintendent of Education John White could be on his way out the door as he was not reconfirmed by the Senate in this year’s legislative session. Governor John Bel Edwards said on his radio call in show that confirmation is a legal requirement for White to keep his job. But White says,

More Louisiana students are graduating high school than ever before. That’s according to state Education Superintendent John White, who says this year’s graduating class maintained record gains made by the class of 2015.
