There is some controversy that the speech Melania Trump made at the Republican National Convention last night sounded very similar to Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech at the Democratic National Convention. Former Jefferson Parish President and a Louisiana delegate at the convention in Cleveland, John Young, says if it’s true, the campaign needs to admit it and move on.

The four candidates running for Lt. Governor discussed how they would improve the film industry in the state at a forum hosted by the Baton Rouge Press Club. Republican Billy Nungesser says when many people see movies filmed in Louisiana, they’re drawn to visit so we need to make changes to the current film tax credit incentive program to keep filmmakers coming to the state.

Political Analyst Clancy Dubos says it’s a very close race between the Democrat Kip Holden and Republicans John Young and Billy Nungesser, because they have the most money and name recognition.

The Jefferson Parish Republican Executive Committee has announced their endorsements for the October 24th primary election. In a surprise, the group backs former Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser in the Lt. Governor's race over Jefferson Parish President John Young.

During a candidate forum, the four men running for Lt. Governor were asked about their stance on the removal of Confederate monuments in New Orleans. Republican Opelousas state Senator Elbert Guillory says we can't tear pages out of history books and ruin them.

Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden is the fourth person to qualify to become the state's next Lieutenant Governor. So far Holden is the lone democrat in the field that features three republicans, Elbert Guillory, Billy Nungesser and John Young. The four candidates are from south Louisiana, but Holden says he'll campaign hard to get votes from north Louisiana.

The most recent campaign finance figures for the Lt. Governor's race shows Republican John Young leading the field with over $2.2 million in cash on hand. Fellow Republican Billy Nungesser is not far behind with more than $1.6 million.
