The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has launched a statewide campaign to educate Louisiana patients and families on how to use available health information technology. DHH Secretary Kathy Kliebert says the campaign is called "Your Health in Your Hands".

The Department of Health and Hospitals has cut the ribbon on a new public health laboratory that will be used to test water, screen for genetic disorders and help the state respond to public health threats such as Ebola. DHH Secretary Kathy Kliebert says this is a ultra modern lab with all of the latest technology.

Planned Parenthood has appealed a Department of Health and Hospitals decision denying the group permission to perform abortions at a new facility currently under construction in New Orleans. Senior Counsel, Roger Evans, says the basis of the appeal is that DHH offered no basis in denying the application.

The Jindal Administration launches a campaign that encourages schools, businesses and restaurants to help Louisiana citizens live healthier. Jindal says it's called the "Well-Ahead Health Initiative" and those entities that choose to participate would be considered a "Well Spot" if they meet a certain amount of criteria set forth by DHH.

|The House Health and Welfare Committee has approved new standards for abortions clinics. The biggest provision requires abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. The State Department of Health & Hospitals says its has completetly cleared a huge backlog of health inspections of retail food outlets across the state, and has taken steps to assure no new backlog emerges. DHH Secretary Kathy Kleibert says an overhaul of their food inspection system has yielded a 60% increase in timely health inspections.

A legislative auditor's report shows
the state Department of Health & Hospitals last year paid out
nearly $2-million in Medicaid administrative costs for persons who
were already dead. DHH Secretary Kathy Kliebert wants taxpayers to
know this was not a case of Medicaid BENEFITS being paid out
