An Allergist with LSU Health Sciences Center says in all his years as a doctor, this is the worst allergy season he’s ever seen. Dr. Sanjay Kamboj says there has been a 10% to 20% increase in the number of patients coming in with allergies that were once able to be treated with over the counter medications.

A survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that more teenage girls are using the morning after pill. The report indicates about 1 in 5 teens girls have used the morning after pill, when ten years ago it was 1 in 12. Dr. Valerie Williams, Assistant professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at LSU Health, says more teens are taking the pill now because it’s easier to get over the counter.

In the final week of the Senate campaign, Democratic incumbent Mary Landrieu is making a big issue over time sheets that possibly show her opponent, Republican Bill Cassidy, was paid by the LSU Health Sciences Center for work he never did. Landrieu says the 16 statements that have been made public are full of inconsistencies.

The LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans has been awarded a $5.6 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to build a regional cancer clinical trials network. This program creates a network of physicians, nurses, and researchers to deliver the latest promising investigational treatments for cancer.

The LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans is offering a possible break through treatment for those diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. Eileen Mederos is the program manager of the clinical trial and she says participants will receive a personalized medicine approach based upon the genetic makeup of their cancers.

Former NFL star Darren Sharper pleaded not guilty Thursday to rape allegations in Los Angeles and is banned from night clubs and being alone with women. Sharper is being investigated for allegedly drugging and raping women in five other states. LSU Heath Science Psychiatry Professor Michelle Moore says rapists are extremely insecure people.
