Federal government announces largest oil and gas lease sale in US history

The Interior Department plans to put nearly 77-million acres in the Gulf of Mexico on sale for energy companies to perform oil and gas development. President of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association Don Briggs hopes energy companies will take advantage of the largest oil and gas lease sale in U-S history.

Public hearing Thursday night to discuss Bayou Bridge Pipeline

A public hearing is scheduled for tonight to discuss the proposed Bayou Bridge Pipeline, which would run across 11 parishes spanning from Calcasieu to St. James. The hearing takes place at 6 p.m. in the Department of Environmental Quality building in Baton Rouge.

When oil prices rebound, will there be enough workers to fill the jobs?

The investment bank, Goldman Sachs expects the U.S. oil and gas industry will hire tens of thousands of workers over the next few years when oil prices bounce back, but will it be that easy? President of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association Don Briggs doesn’t think so, because gas prices are still low and the majority of the 26,000 workers in the industry that were laid off have already found new jobs.

Louisiana Oil and Gas Association President Don Briggs is not surprised President Barack Obama said no to a proposal to build the Keystone Pipeline. Obama's decision ended a seven-year debate over the Canada-to-Texas project that energy advocates said would create thousands of jobs and lower gas prices. Briggs says the President has never liked the idea of this pipeline.

Latest federal oil lease sale in western Gulf is smallest ever

Only five companies placed bids on 33 tracts in the western Gulf of Mexico during a federal oil lease sale in New Orleans. It's the smallest lease sale in the Gulf off Texas since the federal government began regional sales in 1983.
