Lt. Governor Nungesser hopes for increased tourism over the summer

Summer is known as a slow season for Louisiana travel, but Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser hopes that's not the case this year. He says there's hundreds of festivals during the summer months that showcase our food music, culture, and our people.

Former Lt. Gov Bobby Freeman dies at 82

Former Lt. Governor Bobby Freeman has died. His family says Freeman passed away this morning after suffering an aneurysm last week. He was 82-years-old. The St. Martinville native served as Lt. Governor from 1980-88. Edwin Edwards was the governor during Freeman’s second term, and the former governor says Freeman was a very energetic man.

Lt. Governor Nungesser touring the state during National Tourism Week

Lt. Governor Bill Nungesser is touring the state to promote tourism as part of National Tourism Week. Nungesser says he’ll be in in West Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and St. Francisville today and then head to the northern part of the state later in the week. He says he just returned from a week-long trip to Canada.

As Louisiana has sworn in a new governor, John Bel Edwards, we also have a new Lt. Governor. Republican Billy Nungesser also has budget issues to face. He says it will take creativity and working with the legislature to change laws to create more money within tourism.

Former Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser was elected as the state's next Lt. Governor. Nungesser defeated East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden, 55-45%. 
 
In the attorney general's race, Republican Jeff Landry defeated two-term GOP incumbent Buddy Caldwell, 56-44%

New poll shows tight races of Lt. Governor and Attorney General

A new statewide poll shows tight races for Lt. Governor and Attorney General. The survey of 600 Louisiana voters was paid for by Nextstar television stations and conducted by JMC Analytics. Pollster John Couvillon says in the AG’s race, Republican Jeff Landry has a slight lead over Republican incumbent Buddy Caldwell, 38% to 34%percent. He says 29% are undecided.

In the November 21st runoff election, voters will decide who will become the next Lt. Governor.  The election pits Democrat Kip Holden against Republican Billy Nungesser.

Lt. Governor candidates discuss their support for film industry

The four candidates running for Lt. Governor discussed how they would improve the film industry in the state at a forum hosted by the Baton Rouge Press Club. Republican Billy Nungesser says when many people see movies filmed in Louisiana, they’re drawn to visit so we need to make changes to the current film tax credit incentive program to keep filmmakers coming to the state.

During a candidate forum, the four men running for Lt. Governor were asked about their stance on the removal of Confederate monuments in New Orleans.  Republican Opelousas state Senator Elbert Guillory says we can't tear pages out of history books and ruin them.
