Tangipahoa NAACP calls for school superintendent to resign after student couldn't walk at graduation

Members of the Tangipahoa Parish Chapter of the NAACP are calling for the resignation of school Superintendent Mark Kolwe. This is because 4.0 African American student and athlete Andrew Jones was not allowed to walk at his graduation ceremony at Amite High School because of his facial hair. Tangipahoa NAACP President Patricia Morris says this has more to do with Jones’ race than his goatee.

Some Tangipahoa parents want school to begin after Labor Day due to August heat

A group of parents in Tangipahoa Parish are asking district leaders to delay the August start of school because of the extreme heat. The change.org petition says buses don't have air conditioners and the kids are riding home during peak hours of heat.
