Former Marksville City Marshal, Derrick Stafford, who fatally shot a six-year-old autistic boy during a chase has been sentenced to 40 years in prison. Stafford was convicted of manslaughter. State Judge Billy Bennett ordered Stafford must severe at least 20 years before he’s eligible for parole. More

Opening arguments in the Derrick Stafford trial are set for 9 a.m. in Marksville. The former deputy marshal faces murder and attempted murder charges after he and another officer allegedly shot at a vehicle killing a 6-year-old boy and injuring his father. The lawyer of a Marksville City Marshall accused of fatally shooting a 6-year-old boy has filed a motion to move the trial out of Avoyelles Parish. 31-year-old Derrick Stafford’s attorney, Christopher LaCour says with all the media coverage he doesn’t believe Stafford can get a fair trial in this parish.

Funeral services set for Raymond Laborde

Visitation is Tuesday for former state legislator and ex-mayor of Marksville, Raymond Laborde, who passed away Sunday at the age of 88. Former governor Edwin Edwards grew up with Laborde in Marksville and says Laborde was an influential lawmaker during his 20 years in the state legislature.

Suspect in death of 6-year-old could post $1 M bond

Multiple reports indicate one of the two officers charged in the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy in Marksville will post a 1-million dollar bond and be released. 23-year-old Norris Greenhouse, Jr, will reportedly put property up to secure the bond. Legal analyst Tim Meche says it is not unusual for something like this to happen.

State Police says City Marshals from the Ward 2 office in Marksville were involved in a shooting following a pursuit that left a child dead and his alleged father gravely injured. Trooper Scott Moreau says the initial investigation revealed that officers fired on the vehicle at the conclusion of the pursuit.

Marksville mobile home fire claims four

State Fire Marshal's officials are investigating a fire in Avoyelles Parish that has left four dead.  Fire Marshall Butch Browning says the fire occurred just before midnight Thursday night at a mobile home in Marksville.
