Small Business Optimism at its second highest level in 45-years

Small business optimism has reached its highest level in 34 years. That's according to the National Federation of Independent Business, who surveys its members regularly.

NFIB state director Dawn Starns credits the federal tax reform legislation approved last December.

Small business optimism nationwide nearing record high

Small business optimism nationwide is near a record high, according to the National Federation of Independent Business. NFIB State Director Dawn Starns says we haven’t seen this kind of optimism in 34 years, when the economy was booming during the Reagan administration.

Starns credits the positivity to the push for tax reform in Washington D.C.

Today and tomorrow, Louisianans will be able to purchase school supplies and other items at a reduced state sales tax rate of 3%, compared to the normal 5%. National Federation of Independent Business State Director Dawn Starns says she hopes small businesses will see an increase in business but it was more beneficial for retailers when the law allowed for tax free weekend.

Small business uncertainty is at an all-time high less than a week before the election, according to the National Federation for Independent Business. The October Uncertainty Index rose from 86 to 88, which exceeded last August’s record-breaking index. NFIB state director Dawn Starns says this high level of uncertainty makes it hard for small business owners to plan for the future.
