The Shreveport City Council is slated to vote today on whether or not to move forward with the necessary steps to build a more than $100 million dollar mixed-use complex along the Cross-Bayou Corridor. It's expected this would solidify the efforts of the city to attract the New Orleans Pelicans' development league.

DeMarcus Cousins, aka Boogie, was officially introduced Wednesday as one of the newest members of the New Orleans Pelicans. The All-Star comes to The Big Easy from Sacramento and practiced with the Pels for the first time today.

Simmons goes #1, Pelicans pick Hield

As expected former LSU star Ben Simmons was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the first overall pick in the NBA Draft. He's the second player from LSU to be taken with the top pick. Shaquille O' Neal was the first in 1992. Simmons says this is a dream come true.

Lawmaker asks Governor Edwards to look at state contracts with the Saints and Pelicans

Colfax Representative Terry Brown has filed legislation for the regular session that would require the governor to look over Louisiana’s agreements with the Saints and Pelicans and allow him to renegotiate the contracts to reduce state subsidies. Brown says if we’re cutting public dollars for developmentally disabled children and roadways, state-funding for professional sports teams should be reduced.

Deposition ordered for Tom Benson

Benson and heirs head to mediation

Lawyers for Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson and his estranged heirs have agreed to mediation over Benson's lawsuit to remove them as future owners of the teams.  Legal analyst Tim Meche believes this is a sign that Judge Jane Triche Milazzo indicated to Benson's lawyers that they would not win the case during trial.

Pelicans name Alvin Gentry as their new head coach

In a move many expected, the New Orleans Pelicans announced Alvin Gentry as its new head coach. Gentry currently serves as the associate head coach for the Golden State Warriors, who is currently getting ready to play Cleveland in the NBA Finals. Gentry will begin his duties with the Pels following the Finals.

The New Orleans Pelicans have fired head coach Monty Williams after five seasons. In a statement, Pels Vice President Mickey Loomis says this wasn't an easy decision to make, but now was the time and they wish nothing but the best for Williams in the future.

The Pelicans are playoff bound

The New Orleans Pelicans are in the playoffs for the first time since 2011 as they defeated the defending NBA champion, San Antonio Spurs, 108-103. Anthony Davis led the way with 31 points and 13 rebounds. Tyreke Evans also had a double-double, 19 points and 11 assists.
