Ground broken on proposed medical school at ULM

Ground has been broken for a new medical school on the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus. The 100,000 square foot facility is expected to begin classes in the fall of 2020.
 
No state dollars are being used. Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine is paying for the building and its operation. VCOM also has campuses in Virginia, Alabama and South Carolina.

Study shows an over 5 billion dollar economic impact comes from the Ouachita River

According to an ULM economic impact study released, commercial use of the Ouachita River produces billions in revenue and several thousand jobs in North Louisiana. Dr. Bob Eisenstadt of the ULM Center for Business and Economic Research says the nearly year long study revealed how important the river is.

Teacher and ULM alum donates $1M anonymously for educating students to become teachers

An anonymous donor gave one-million-dollars to the University of Louisiana at Monroe. It was given as part of the SOAR Capital Campaign to support the School of Education at ULM. Development Officer of the fund raising effort Morgan Patrick says the donation gets them closer to their 54-million-dollar goal.

ULM ranked number one university in Louisiana by Schools.com

Schools.com ranks the University of Louisiana at Monroe the best four year college in the state. ULM president Dr. Nick Bruno says it is exciting and satisfying to be recognized this way. He says ULM is a small institution that has a very big attitude.

Board of Regents grants license for ULM to host new med school

The Board of Regents has granted a license for ULM to host New York Institute of Technology’s new medical school in northeast Louisiana. ULM President Dr. Nick Bruno says this will give students throughout north Louisiana the opportunity to attend medical school right on the ULM campus.

ULM looking to bring medical school to Monroe

Northeast Louisiana could become the future home of a new medical school. University of Louisiana Monroe President Dr. Nick Bruno says the university is actively engaged in discussions with a private medical school they hope to partner with, but they still have to work out a lot of details.

Monroe ranks high nationally on most affordable college town list

In a recently released ranking of the "50 Great Affordable College Towns in the US", Monroe comes in at number 33 in the nation. Monroe is the only city in Louisiana to be ranked. ULM President Nick Bruno says Monroe offers great support to the university.

Cuts Announced in UL-Monroe Budget Reorganization

U.L.-Monroe announces job eliminations and consolidations, as the university reorganizes to meet the annual state budget. ULM President Dr. Nick Bruno says five academic colleges will merge into three, and 25 positions will be cut; six by attrition, and 19 via layoffs.

ULM sees record freshman enrollment for 2013

The University of Louisiana at Monroe says this fall's freshman enrollment is at a record breaking 1,338 students. Overall enrollment this year at ULM is up by over 100 students from 2012. President Nick Bruno says this is the first increase in enrollment in about 5 years.
