East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says the Baton Rouge police ambush a year ago today was a turning point for our community. Gautreaux says he was in Lake Charles when he received a phone call telling him his officers were shot. He says he raced back to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital where he learned three officers had lost their lives. More

One year later, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Tullier continues to defy the odds. Nick has made tremendous strides in his recovery after being shot three times by a gunman who ambushed Baton Rouge police officers. Nick’s father, James Tullier, says his son underwent major abdominal surgery last week because he’s been struggling with infection since the shooting. More

Michelle Southern reporting.One of the officers wounded in the deadly ambush on cops in Baton Rouge last year is suing leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement. On July 17th, 2016, 29-year-old Gavin Long killed three officers and wounded three others in a targeted attack. The suit accuses Black Lives Matter of inciting violence. |

A Senate bill would give financial assistance to police and firefighters who are catastrophically injured during a targeted attack in the line of duty. The proposal comes as East Baton Rouge Deputy Nick Tullier continues to recover from the ambush on Baton Rouge police last July. His mother, Mary Tullier, spoke before the Senate Finance committee. More

Medical staff at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston announced today that wounded East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Tullier is fully conscious and making strides in his recovery. Medical Director of the Disorders of Consciousness Program, Dr. Sunil Kothari, says they believed Tullier would be in a vegetative state when he arrived, but they quickly learned that he was in fact minimally conscious.

The three law enforcement officers killed in Sunday’s ambush attack in Baton Rouge are being remembered today as heroes. Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie says Office Matthew Gerald was a devoted husband and father of two and joined the Baton Rouge Police Department in March. Dabadie says Gerald also served in the Marine Corp, the Army, and served three tours in Iraq. More
