State officials go door to door to promote flood recovery survey

State officials are ramping up efforts to boost participation in the flood recovery survey. Pat Forbes with the Office of Community Development says they started with emails and phone calls and moved on to PSA’s and billboards. He says now they’re taking the survey to the ground level and going door to door.

Restore Louisiana Task Force meets Friday to discuss further plans for federal flood money

The Restore Louisiana Task Force meets today to discuss plans to spend federal flood relief dollars. In the weeks after the August flood, the state secured 438-million and then another 1.2 billion was appropriated in December.
 
Pat Forbes, executive director of the State Office of Community Development, says today they'll hear the final changes to the plan for the $438 million and it will go to the state's most vulnerable population.

Public meetings scheduled to update flood victims on recovery process

Public meetings are being held in flood impacted areas of the state to update flood victims on the ongoing recovery efforts. Executive Director for the Office of Community Development, Pat Forbes says the task force wanted to make sure that everybody had a chance to weigh on how dollars will be distributed.

State Office of Community Development eager to get federal flood dollars in the hands of victims

President Obama has signed the bill that provides $500 million in federal disaster aid. Executive Director of the state Office of Community Development Pat Forbes says Louisiana is expected to get a little over $400 million of that assistance to help with flood recovery. He says the most urgent need is to help homeowners without flood insurance.

Louisiana has yet to spend over a billion dollars in federal hurricane recovery dollars

Louisiana still has 1.5 dollars in unspent federal hurricane recovery grant money left over from hurricanes in 2005 and 2008. Pat Forbes is the head of the state office of community development's disaster recovery unit. Forbes says they know how they'll spend 99-percent of that money, but they are waiting on local governments to start or finish various rebuilding projects.
