Parts of coastal Southeast Louisiana saw snow early this morning. Measurable snow fell in Grand Isle and areas of south Plaquemines Parish. Alek Krautman with the National Weather Service in Slidell says the last time snow stuck to the ground in that area was December 1989.

A small insect, commonly referred to as Phragmites or the Roseau Cane Mealy Bug is causing extensive damage to Roseau cane in southern Plaquemines Parish. LSU Ag Center entomologist Rodrigo Diaz says over 100-thousand acres of the cane in the wetlands in the Mississippi River Delta have been affected by this bug.

The FBI and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's office is seeking the person or persons responsible for hanging a noose-like knot from a willow tree along the Mississippi River batture in Belle Chasse. The words "White Power" were also found written on the cement levee embankment. More

has been killed, and two others were hurt, in a helicopter crash this morning near the Gulf coast. The aircraft was flying employees of the Wood Group back from a site about 30 miles northeast of Venice, which is in Plaquemines Parish.
